Stockholm Public Library carries out new design strategy with the help of Bas Brand Identity.

Stockholm Public Library has given the design and communication agency Bas the assignment to create a new design strategy and visual identity for the all 44 libraries in Stockholm. The scope is to strengthen and communicate the library's identity as well as making the library environments more exciting and functional.

The assignment also includes applications on various units that carry the brand - library cards, carrying bags, etc. As en element of decor the codes of the library's SAB-codes are used that indicates the subjects of the books and makes a distinct reference to the library world. It's easy to find many tongue-in-cheek references on the various units.

But the design concept starts with the library environment. The program of exterior and interior signs is based on the Swedish "design for everybody" concept which means that en environment should be functional for all visitors - children, adults and indiy. "When a six year old come into the library it is a big thing to have an own library card. By giving away a "start kit" with the card you provide a first step to develop a lust for reading and create a long term relationship with the library."

Personnel at the Stockholm Public Library are also positive. To cite a librarian "When you feel really low going to work in the morning you just have to hold a new library card before your eyes and the world takes on a pink glow".
